Double Proxy MarriageWhat is it? Do you qualify?

What Is Double Proxy Marriage?
When a couple is unable to be present for their own wedding, yet need the fact of their marriage documented, proxies may stand in on their behalf to sign the marriage license. Double Proxy Marriage is not intended to take away from your special day, but to add convenience and efficiency to the legal process of marriage.

How do I know if I qualify?
There are two questions to ask yourself:

1.  Am I, or is my fiance an active member of the United States Armed Forces

If the answer is yes - you qualify!

-OR-

2.  Am I, or is my fiance a resident of the state of Montana?

If the answer is yes - you qualify!

How do I get started?
You may either call us to request a free packet of forms, or you may complete the "Request" form to the left to receive your free digital proxy marriage kit. There is no obligation; please feel free to review the forms and call us with any questions.

Do we need to send our paperwork back and forth to each other for signatures?
No.  The bride may complete her forms, the groom may complete his forms and they may be mailed in separately if needed.  Our office will compile the documents and keep you informed by email every step of the way.

What is the fee and when do I pay?
The fee for double proxy marriage is $700.00.  We want you to feel as comfortable as possible with the Double Proxy Marriage process.  We will accept payment at any time during the preparation of your paperwork.  Please keep in mind, paperwork may not be delivered to the attorney until payment has been received.

When will we be married?  How long does this take?
Once we receive a complete packet from each of you, we are normally able to marry you within five to seven business days.

What if the person I intend to marry is a citizen of another country?
As long as one of you is an active service member or a resident of the state of Montana, you can receive a Double Proxy Marriage, regardless of where your intended is residing.  There is only one additional requirement for a foreign national, a document called an Apostille.  An Apostille is an internationally recognized form of authentication.  Once the marriage has been completed, an Apostille can take up to ten days to be produced by the Secretary of State and mailed out to you.  You can find an Apostille option in the "Buy Now - Proxy Services" menu.

Does this mean we can't have our own ceremony when we are together again?
You may have a ceremony whenever you wish.  The only difference between a ceremony before Double Proxy Marriage and a ceremony after Double Proxy Marriage is the fact that the paperwork has already been completed.  You can now focus on all the special details without worrying about the license!
